Ordinary washing turned into stagnant water in the tank? What could have happened and why is the washing machine not draining water? The reasons for the lack of drainage can be many factors, and this is not necessarily a complex breakdown. Basically, after a diagnosis, you can fix the problems yourself.
How to detect a malfunction and resume the operation of the automatic machine, read the article.
Causes and Symptoms
How the user can understand that a malfunction has occurred:
- Pay attention to the first signs of damage. For example, water drains more slowly than usual.
- A washing machine does not drain water at all.
- The washing cycle goes as usual, but when it comes to the drain, the system freezes.
- The machine drains water through one wash.
- After draining the spin does not start.
- After the main wash, the water drains, after rinsing - no.
You can also notice a loud noise: the machine will buzz as if draining waste water.
Why the breakdown occurred:
- The wrong mode is set.
- The drain pipe, hose, and sewage are clogged.
- The pressure sensor is out of order.
- The drain pump has broken.
- Burnt electronic circuit board.
What to do if the washing machine does not drain
If the drain in the washing machine does not work, first check the connection and other external factors. You do not need to disassemble the washer.
Proceed sequentially:
- Check if the program is installed correctly. In cases where “Manual” or “Night mode” is selected, as well as washing delicate fabrics, the machine can stop after rinsing - before spinning. Cancel the mode and start draining.
- Inspect the drain hose. If it is bent or a blockage has formed in it, then the water will not be able to go into the sewer.
- Both the sewage system and the siphon could become clogged (if the washer is connected through it). To check this, it is enough to disconnect the hose and direct it into the sink, and then start the drain. If water flows out of the hose, then the cause is sewage. You can clean it with special tools or call plumbing.
If you tried all the methods, but the drain does not turn on, restart the washer, disconnecting it from the network for 15-20 minutes. Then run the drain program again.
Not a single tool works? We need to proceed to the diagnosis and repair of internal parts.
Drain occurs, but not completely
A washing machine draws water, but does not drain completely. The reason is the clogging of the drain system. Begin testing with a drain filter.
- Open the small sunroof at the bottom of the front panel. To do this, release its latches.
- Substitute a flat container and unscrew the filter.
- After draining the water, clean the filter from clogging.
On some CMA models, the filter is screwed. Therefore, first unscrew the screws and then the filter.
It also happens that the drain filter does not open, because the drain plug does not unscrew. She sticks to the body. You can soften the connection with WD-40 liquid or remove the filter with the pump.
If the filter is clean, proceed with further inspection. Now you need to check if the drain pipe is clogged. This could be the reason that the water does not drain completely.
You can get to the nozzle through the bottom of the washer, back or front panel. It all depends on the brand of the washing machine: Indesit, Samsung, Ariston or Zanussi.
- After you get to the nozzle, unscrew the bolts of its fastening.
- Unscrew the clamps with pliers and disconnect the pipe from the tank to the pump.
- Feel the pipe with your hands, checking if its channel is clogged.
- After cleaning, reinstall it.
SMA buzzes during the drain
If the machine, trying to drain the water, buzzes and pops, the cause may be in the pump. To check its performance, you need to look at the impeller.
- Shine a flashlight into the hole of the drain filter.
- Turn on spin mode and check if the impeller is spinning.
- If the impeller does not rotate, the pump must be fully checked. It is located next to the drain pipe.
To remove the pump, unscrew the mounting bolts and disconnect the wiring. Now inspect both the impeller and its motor. It happens that foreign objects are wrapped around the impeller. If everything is clean, ring the pump with a multimeter to see if voltage is applied to it. Wiring is also inspected.
If the pump does not give any indicators, he needs a replacement. You can buy a new part in a specialized store, naming the brand and model of the washing machine.
Pump runs continuously
Does the drain pump work and not turn off? A breakdown has occurred in the electronic control board. Her elements are out of order, so she does not give the pump a command to stop working.
For inspection, you need to remove the control board from the housing:
- Unplug the washing machine.
- Remove the top cover by unscrewing the two screws on the back.
- Pull out the dispensing tray by pressing the latch in the center and pulling it towards you.
- Remove the screws behind the tray and on the opposite side of the panel.
- Release the latches.
- Disconnect all wires from the board and remove it from the panel.
- Look for burnt parts on the surface.
Do not try to repair the electronics yourself, it is better to trust professionals.
Faulty pressure switch
When the pressure switch tubes are blocked or it completely fails, the module does not receive information about the amount of water in the tank. Therefore, it does not give a command for pumping water. By removing the top cover, you can disconnect the sensor tubes and clean them from clogging. Or remove the pressure switch by unscrewing the fastening screw and install a new device.
Regularly prevent blockages by periodically cleaning the drain system from debris. Also flush the dispensing tray under the tap with running water.
Inspect all items before loading to empty pockets of foreign objects. Place clothes with small parts in special laundry bags.
