The installation of a dishwasher in the kitchen requires an electrical connection, water supply and a drain. It is important to properly organize the connection of communications so that the equipment works for a long time and stably. To drain the waste water, you can pick up a siphon for a dishwasher.
Why do experts convince us of its necessity? Features of the selection and installation will be discussed below.
Why do you need a siphon
The siphon serves as a water seal; it is installed under each sink or bathtub. It is a plastic or metal container. Performs such important functions:
- Prevents the penetration of odors from the sewer into the room.
- Protects the sewage system from blockages that occur when food debris enters the sink.
- Reduces the load on the drain pump of the dishwasher. Indeed, such a connection requires close placement of equipment to the sink.
Important! The shorter the drain hose of the dishwasher, the faster and with less load on the parts will leave the water.
Many users connect the equipment directly to the sewer. For this, a special coupling is used, which allows you to remove the difference in the diameter of the hose and pipe. A water lock is created by bending the hose in a specific place where part of the water accumulates.
The disadvantage of such a installation in the need to build up hoses is not always standard sizes enough. In addition, the number of connections increases - the likelihood of leakage increases.
Purchase requirements
It should be borne in mind that the waste water from the dishwasher contains organic particles, fats, and chemically active substances. To select the siphon correctly, follow these requirements:
- increased diameter of the tank;
- resistant to aggressive compounds and temperatures up to 70 degrees;
- collapsible design for easy cleaning;
- tight connection to pipes.
When installing the dishwasher and washing machine, two taps are needed.
Varieties of siphons
Designs for connecting dishwashers are open and closed (boxed) type. The first can be installed in the cabinet, directly to the sink. The second requires embedding in the wall. For this, a special recess is prepared in the wall, communications are laid, and then everything is closed with a decorative panel.
The advantage of the closed type is more free space. If the machine has a side outlet, it is possible to push it close to the wall.
Types of siphons:
- Pipe. A metal or plastic pipe that directly connects to the sink and sewer. It cannot be used for a dishwasher, since there is no way to connect a hose. Viega is famous for the production of pipe siphons.
- Bottle. Plastic construction with multiple bends. Great solution for PMM or washing machines. It is used everywhere thanks to the tank located below. With it, you can quickly clean the product.
- Corrugated. Simple and budget option. The curved tube is also connected to the sink and sewer. But there are new varieties where additional bends are provided.
- Hidden. An expensive device that fits into a wall. Made entirely of metal, often equipped with only one bend. If you find a more successful design, then the product can be used for connection.
Conclusion: to connect the dishwasher, you can choose any siphon, the main thing is that it is with a fitting and branch pipes.
An important part during installation is the check valve. The technique with a non-return valve is protected from spontaneous discharge of water, from the ingress of dirt into the system.
Installation Rules
First of all, remove the old siphon. To do this, substitute the container, unscrew it and pour out stagnant water.
What components are required:
- wrench;
- screwdriver;
- sealant.
We carry out the drain connection:
- Put the gasket and adapter onto the outlet sewer pipe.
- From above, connect the outlet and seal the connection.
- Place a rubber gasket around the sink outlet.
- Install a metal or plastic mesh.
- Insert a bolt into the center.
- Screw the nut onto the screw from the inside.
- Screw a siphon onto the threads of the nut.
- Connect its hose to the drain. The joint can be fastened with electrical tape or special sealant.
- Open the water tap and check for leaks.
When connecting a dishwasher, follow simple rules:
- Try to place the equipment closer to the sink so that the distance does not exceed 1.5 m.
- Use a hose clip to secure the drain hose to the siphon outlet. Otherwise, with a high pressure, the hose may fly off.
- The joint should not be higher than 80 cm from the floor.
